Lateral Canthoplasty

What is Lateral Canthoplasty?

Answer's Lateral Canthoplasty is a procedure to correct the tail of the eyes by fixing the periosteal ligaments on the tail of the eyes. The process for correcting the eye tails is separating the tail of the eyes and fixing the periosteal ligaments. After that, the periosteal ligaments on the tail of the eyes are separated in order to prevent turning the eyelids to the opposite side.

At Answer Plastic SurgeryDr. Choi experts on the separation of the periosteal ligaments on the tail of the eyes. Thus, there is much less possibility of side effects of the Lateral Canthoplasty.

You can operate both Epicanthoplasty and Lateral Canthoplasty together (Dual Canthoplasty)

If you have eyelids which are too low or too high, it may cause sleepy and sharp looking eyes. The Lateral Canthoplasty can balance the most ideal shape of the eyes to each individual patient.

Answer’s Wonder Lateral Canthoplasty can enlarge the size of the eyes and bring balance between the eyes. Additionally, threads are stitched at the corner of the eyes; so the threads are almost invisible. You can return to daily life quickly and threads do not cause any awkwardness to the eyes.

What is the correction of the eye tail?

The correction of the tail of the eyes is one of the most popular canthoplasty surgeries. The correction of the eye tails reduces the side effects of Lateral Canthoplasty. Getting only Lateral Canthoplasty might cause the upper and lower parts of the eye tails are attached to each other. The correction of the eye tails minimizes this side effect. It also has an effect of widening the horizontal length of the eyes and creates less sharp looking eyes. If your eyes are too horizontally short or undefined, or you are unsatisfied with the result of the double eyelid surgery, or getting a canthoplasty may not cause an effective result. The correction of the eye tail may be effective to solve these problems.

This procedure is recommended, if you...

  • Have horizontally short eyes
  • Want a subtle and soft shape to your eyes
  • Have eyes which are too close to each other
  • Are not satisfied with the results of Epicanthoplasty
  • Eyes have a sharpness because the eye tail is located too high
  • The eyes are sad-looking because the eye tail is located too low

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there any possibility that the upper and lower eyelids will be attached together after the surgery?

A: There is no attaching of the upper eyelids to the lower. However, when people close their eyes, soft tissues on the eyelids are contracted which may lead the muscles to go back to the original place. This may cause the tail of the eyes going back a bit and appear shorter in length.

Q: Is there any possibility of weird shapes forming or eyelashes turning upside down?

A: There is no possibility of this occurrence. Dr. Choi of Answer Plastic Surgery only extends the horizontal length of the eyes and angle of the tail.

Q: Do I need to get Lateral Canthoplasty or Epicanthoplasty with Double Eyelid surgery?

A: At Answer Plastic Surgery, WONDER Canthoplasty (Lateral Canthoplasty) can be operated either with or without the Double Eyelid surgery. If you would like to make your eyes as large as possible, Dr. Choi would recommend you to operate the Double Eyelid surgery or the Ptosis Correction or the Epicanthoplasty when you take the Wonder Canthoplasty. Wonder Canthoplasty (Lateral Canthoplasty) can be operated either with or without Double Eyelid surgery. If you would like to make your eyes as large as possible, Dr. Choi recommends getting a Double Eyelid surgery or Ptosis correction or Epicanthoplasty at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I have noticeable scarring after Alar Reduction?

Generally, people do get scars around the mouth and nose after the operation. However, at Answer Plastic surgery, we use our ultra-fine equipment when suturing to minimize the scars. Over time, the scar will become unnoticeable.

Q: When do people get Nostril Reduction?

When people do not have enough alar tissue cells, it is difficult to have an alar base surgery. In this case, those who have large nostrils often choose to reduce their nostrils.

Q: In which cases is alar lifting recommended?

Alar lifting is recommended for those whose have droopy alars. When the alars are sagging compared to the nasal column (the section between the nostrils), nostrils seem to be exposed. By lifting the alars, the amount of exposure can be reduced.
