Curved Nose Rhinoplasty

If your nose tip is dropping or pointing downwards like an “arrow”, the Curved Nose Rhinoplasty is the right procedure for you. A curved nose brings both aesthetical and functional imbalance; you may notice an imbalance in your facial symmetry, and in some cases, experience nasal congestion due to a severe deviation of the cartilage.

The two main factors that determine the shape of the nose are the nasal bone and cartilage, which demands differing surgical methods of nose correction. The nose may be curved due to both external factors (an injury) or internal factors (genetic reasons). There are generally two cases for a curved nose: when nasal bone is curved or when the cartilage is curved. For a deviated bone, the excess bone will be trimmed off, whereas, for a curved cartilage, it can be straightened through osteotomy. This procedure is very complex and thus only a rhinoplasty specialist, such as Dr. Choi Min, will bring you the exact results.

Operation Method

When the nasal bone is curved

Most of the times, it may curve due to external problems. For this case through osteotomy, nasal bone can be adjusted to the right place.

When the cartilage is curved

The cartilage can be shaped looking like alphabet I, C, or S. For this case, cartilage should be re-positioned to the right place. People with deviated nose may have hypertrophic rhinitis, constantly having the stuffy nose. Even after correcting deviated nose, the stuffy nose may exist. Thus rhinitis operation can be done simultaneously.

  • if your nose is deviated due to an injury

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I've heard that deviated nose can't be balanced 100%...

A: It is nearly impossible to find someone who has a perfectly symmetrical face; one side of the face is bigger than the other. Therefore, a perfectly symmetrical nose may not flatter your facial features. At Answer Plastic Surgery, we find the nose that best brings stability and emphasizes your best features.

Q: My nose is deviated and I'm suffering from hypertrophic rhinitis. Can I treat both problems?

A: The curved nose can lead to nasal concha, which results in chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. Both problems must be treated to prevent nasal airway obstruction. At Answer Plastic Surgery, our doctor additionally treats hypertrophic rhinitis and therefore brings satisfying results of both beauty and bodily function.

Q: Do I have to get osteotomy to correct my deviated nose?

A: No, it is not necessary. Not all procedures are done in the same way. Osteotomy is carried out when the nasal bone is tilted or wide. If the cartilage is curved, however, osteotomy is not necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I have noticeable scarring after Alar Reduction?

Generally, people do get scars around the mouth and nose after the operation. However, at Answer Plastic surgery, we use our ultra-fine equipment when suturing to minimize the scars. Over time, the scar will become unnoticeable.

Q: When do people get Nostril Reduction?

When people do not have enough alar tissue cells, it is difficult to have an alar base surgery. In this case, those who have large nostrils often choose to reduce their nostrils.

Q: In which cases is alar lifting recommended?

Alar lifting is recommended for those whose have droopy alars. When the alars are sagging compared to the nasal column (the section between the nostrils), nostrils seem to be exposed. By lifting the alars, the amount of exposure can be reduced.
