Before & After Instructions For Rhinoplasty

Preparation Before Rhinoplasty Surgery

Medication

Unnecessary medications and vitamins must be avoided for 2 weeks prior to the rhinoplasty surgery (such as aspirin or Tylenol, birth control pills, hormone drugs, and vitamin supplements). Anything that may increase bleeding must be avoided.

Please let the consultants know prior to the surgery if you are diagnosed and are undergoing any treatment (such as diabetes, thyroid issues, heart disease, and hypertension).

Drinking & Smoking

Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes before surgery (at least 3 days). Intake of natural foods like vegetables and fruits will shorten your recovery period after surgery.

Clothing

You are recommended to wear comfortable clothes (preferably zip ups, nothing tight) on the day of the surgery. Remove all make-up (including light & heavy make-up), jewelry, nail polish, and contact lenses.

Fasting

Because you will be undergoing local anesthesia, you must fast for 4 ~ 6 hours prior to your surgery.

After Surgery Care

Nursing

Helpers and translators will be aiding you every step of the way, including the moment you wake up after the operation. You will be nursed with ultimate care to help you with your recovery. Delicious pumpkin porridge and pumpkin juice will be provided to help speed your recovery. (Please let us know if you have pumpkin allergy or simply do not want it.) We will also analyze your recovery process and provide you with your after-treatment package and medication.

Cooling

It is vital to consistently apply ice packs due to the increase in swelling for 2-3 days post-surgery. (Ice packs will be provided from the hospital.) It will help speed the recovery process as well. Swelling or bruising may be uneven on the operated areas, but do not worry; this does not imply any problematic situation and the swelling will eventually decrease, leaving you with the results you expect.

Medication

After the surgery, you will be prescribing medicine and scheduled for regular check-ups and cleanings. You must sleep on your back to help the recovery process.

Smoking & Drinking

For the best recovery and results, smoking and drinking must be avoided for at least 4 weeks after surgery.
